Organisations with which we have signed an MoU
ProGEO collaborates with selected international partners through formal Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements strengthen our joint efforts in research, geoconservation, professional exchange, and global outreach.
Below are the organisations with which ProGEO has established official partnerships:
Geological Society of America (GSA)
The Geological Society of America is one of the world’s leading geoscience organisations, supporting research, professional development, and scientific exchange across all fields of Earth sciences. In June 2025, GSA officially renamed its History and Philosophy of Geology Division to the History, Philosophy, and Geoheritage (HPG) Division, a change that highlights the growing global importance of geoheritage — and strengthens the alignment between GSA’s mission and ProGEO’s core objectives.
Our Memorandum of Understanding, signed on 10 December 2024 by GSA President Chuck Bailey during a ceremony at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C., formalises this shared vision. It enables close cooperation through mutual promotion of events, collaboration in scientific meetings, opportunities for joint publications, member benefits for conferences, and enhanced visibility as affiliated societies.

EuroGeoSurveys (EGS)
EuroGeoSurveys represents the Geological Surveys of Europe, providing authoritative geoscientific knowledge to support public policy, sustainable resource management, and societal needs.
Through our MoU, ProGEO and EGS collaborate on advancing geoconservation and geoheritage in Europe, sharing expertise, supporting joint initiatives, and strengthening the link between research, practice, and policy. Agreement from 26th March 2014 between EGS and ProGEO was assigned to promote a co-ordinated European policy for Geoconservation, the recognition, categorisation and documentation of sites geological interest (geosites).

“At the 36th EGS General Assembly meeting, held in Brussels on Tuesday 25 March, EGS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ProGEO. The ceremony was witnessed by all EGS members and invited guests from around the world.”
